EPOA recognises and shares the concerns on deforestation, on peat land production, on exploitation of people and extinction of wildlife. Palm oil that is related to these issues is not sustainable. EPOA defines certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) as produced by palm oil plantations which have been independently audited and certified against the RSPO, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil standard.
The RSPO has become the globally recognised standard for sustainable palm oil. Sustainable palm oil is defined by the principles and criteria against which oil palm plantations are certified. The principles forbit deforestation, new planting on peat and exploitation of people or communities.
